Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences (founded in 1918) is the oldest and the largest Russian research centre for physical, social and economic geography. The comprehensive nature of research and cooperation between departments enables to conduct studies in cross-disciplinary fields, i.e. interaction between environment and society in terms of rising anthropogenic influence; features of regional frameworks for sustainable development and the impact of global change on economy and society.
Russian State Library was founded in 1862. It took over 140 years of everyday effort and devotion of hundreds of staff to become what we are now — the legendary ‘Leninka’. Today the Library comprises a unique collection of Russian and foreign documents in 247 languages, stocking over 43 mln library items. It is also renowned for its specialised collections of maps, published and sheet music, audio records, rarities, dissertations, newspapers and other stock categories.
